Alex Marsella

I am an Assistant Professor of Economics and Data Analytics in the Campbell School of Business at Berry College. My research is in urban economics and applied public policy, with a particular focus on housing markets, local regulation, and place-based policies.

My work uses quasi-experimental methods to study how local policies affect housing markets, businesses, and communities. Current projects examine zoning reform, short-term rental regulation, neighborhood investment, and urban crime.

My research on the Minneapolis 2040 Plan and house prices was recently published in the Journal of Regional Science.

Research interests: Housing markets and land-use regulation; short-term rental regulation; urban and local public policy; crime and neighborhood development; causal inference and applied econometrics.

At Berry College, I teach economics, statistics, data analytics, and causal inference, and I serve as curriculum lead for the Data Analytics program. I received my PhD in Economics from West Virginia University.
